Dromid Hostel

Hostel and Activity Centre
For Individuals, Families or Groups on the Iveragh Peninsula.

Failte go dti ar suiomh/Welcome to our site. Our hostel offers a year round service to individuals and groups. We are located at the heart of the South Kerry/Iveragh Gaeltacht in the magical unspoiled location of Dromid.

Nestled between the valleys and on the banks of the River Inny, the Dromid Hostel/Bru na Dromoda gives it’s guests the most pleasant and thorough hostel experiences that one can hope for. Located in a dark sky reserve, we have much to boast here in terms of views morning or night-time. If the weather is clear, one can enjoy immense star-gazing where we also have access to some wonderful equipment to help facilitate this. Dromid is located in a Gold Tier Reserve which is only one of three in the world.

We are also located approximately 8-10 minutes from the village of Waterville which boasts a beautiful beach and some lovely restaurants and lively pubs, we are also a mere 15 minutes drive from Cahersiveen and Ballinskelligs (home to two wonderful blue flag beaches).

For the Kerry Way walker, we offer what we call a package approach for these guests, once you leave the Kerry Way for our hostel, we offer a meals service (confirm by request), a café boasting some amazingly tasty coffee and cakes and a laundry before you settle into your lovely comfortable bed. We also offer laundry services where possible and have a drying room for those who need it and in the South-West Coast of Ireland, it is very possible it may be needed. For the walker who is hindered by the rain and needs to come in to us early, we can also accommodate this, we have a lovely cost sitting-room full of games and books to occupy you until check-in time. We are also located beside the Inny Tavern where you can relax by the fire or play some pool while meeting the locals and practicing a few words as Gaeilge with them also located beside this is a little shop where one can purchase some basic provisions for their stay.

We boast of so much in terms of cycling and walking routes which our in-house staff can assist you with and also have so many wonderful archaeological sites and opportunities for adventure tourism.

Dromid Hostel is also a wonderful base if one wishes to climb Ireland’s highest mountain, Carrantuohil as we are located about a 25-30 minute drive from one of the commencement points or indeed ideal for ones trip to Sceilig Mhichil, we are about a 25 minute drive from Portmagee Village.
